1,000-year old Imoka festival in Awka goes international

THE highly celebrated Imoka Cultural festival in Awka has gone international. This was revealed by the Chairman 2018 Imoka festival Planning Committee, Ozo Aneze Chinwuba, at a media briefing yesterday on the preparations for the 2018 Imoka festival

Dr Chinwuba who listed unique week-long activities for this year’s event on Sunday, May 13,2018 to include masquerades display, raffle draws, and tour of the Imoka groove by visiting tourists, historians and research scholars among other visitors. Others include “Ika Uta road walk/visit to Umuokpu (head of the villages), and the “Opu Eke Umunwayi” among other programmes.

The annual festival, according to Chinwuba ranks in the mode of the Argungu Fishing festival, Eyo Masquerade festival, Oshun-Oshogbo cultural festival, Iri-Ji and Mmanwu Uzo-Iyi festival.
