President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed satisfaction over news of the country being out of recession and said ordinary Nigerians must feel the impact.
PLUSMILA.com gathered that the National Bureau of Statistics had shown how the Nigerian economy came out of recession.
In a statement by Garba Shehu on Tuesday, September 5, the president was quoted as saying he was very happy with the new development.
The president spoke when he received the President of Niger, Alhaji Mahamadou Issoufou, at his country home in Daura, Katsina state.
He also took to his Facebook page to express satisfaction over the news of the country getting out of recession promising to continue to do more.
He wrote: “I am pleased by the news of our emergence from the recession, and looking forward to ensuring that the ordinary Nigerian feels the impact.
“Until coming out of recession translates into meaningful improvement in people’s lives, our work cannot be said to be done.
“While I’m glad we’re starting to see the fruit of our work, there’s still a lot to be done; and we will not rest until all Nigerians feel the impact.
“The real change for Nigerians is an impact that is felt in their lives and their pockets.
“We are on the right path, and our work continues, to make a lasting and visible difference.
“I thank you all for your patience, and for believing in us. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
In his remarks, the Nigerian President said he was most delighted to see President Buhari in good health, praying that the almighty God would continue to strengthen him.
President Issoufou said he used the opportunity of the visit to discuss some bilateral and regional issues with President Buhari, which included the fight against Boko Haram, the economic challenges in the Lake Chad Basin and other developmental concerns that directly affect the livelihood of the citizens of both countries.
The Nigerien President was accompanied on the visit by a former Prime Minister, Dr.Hamid Algabid, and the President of the Economic, Social and Cultural Council of Niger, Moussa Moumouni Djermakoye.
Meanwhile, The presidency said the Buhari administration welcomes news of Nigeria’s exit from recession with “cautious optimism and will continue to drive Nigeria’s economic growth by vigorously implementing the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan launched earlier this year by President Buhari.”
Premium Times reports that the stance was contained in a statement by Laolu Akande, spokesperson to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
